Gamesology

A training session for children of this age can consist of 5 components:

gamesology

By utilising a 'Games' approach, it taps into children's natural desire to play more games during practical sessions and it enables them to freely express themselves on the pitch. We encourage facilitators to plan 5 activities, but if the children are loving one particular game, they can stay in that game for a bit longer – so if you don’t get through all 5, that is fine – but you have them planned in case you need them.

  1. Small-Sided Game
Start with a small-sided game free of any incentives. Let them play!
  2. FUN Football Game
Lots of repetition of FUN skills for children aged 5-8 related to the game of football
  3. Small-Sided Game (with variation)
Repeat the initial small-sided-game with a slight variation or incentive to encourage desired behaviours
  4. Physical Literacy Game
FUN football activities aimed to get children to become better movers
  5. Small-Sided Game
End with a small-sided game free of any incentives. Let them play!

CHOOSE YOUR OWN

We encourage you to choose your own games based on the experience you have had with your own players and your knowledge of what works with them and what doesn't. To support this, we have created a 'bank' of resources for each session component by which you can pick and choose between different activities that will suit the needs and demands of your players.
